EN 50160 power quality measurement and short circuit alarming - new GPRS & Ethernet IEC 60870-5-104 communication products.
European electricity distributors are compelled to comply with European standard EN 50160 and in many cases offer additional service level agreements to their customers in order to reduce voltage fluctuation of the required standard (norm) consumption. Taking in account voltage variations of high and mid-voltage infrastructures voltage variations of low-voltage supply still remains in many cases.
Lifetime and physical boundaries of infrastructure and short circuit events make it thus necessary to (tele)monitor mid-voltage and low-voltage electricity cabinets. The WAN communication of these parameters is in most cases through Ethernet or GPRS TCP/IP communication.

Bausch Datacom will release as from Q3 2013 new products tailored for the utility (electricity) market. These products communicate as IEC 60870-5-104 slave hardware over GPRS and Ethernet. Aim is to offer cost effective hardware to communicate with master IEC 60870-5-104 host software such as ABB SPIDER, Clearscada a.o.
Through digital and analog inputs/outputs or RS-485 Modbus interfacing alarm or monitoring information can be transferred over GPRS or Ethernet using the SCADA IEC 60870-5-104 TCP/IP protocol. The devices are especially suitable for power quality measurement and short circuit alarming communication. Bausch specializes therefore in tailor made GPRS and Ethernet communication applications.
The following products integrating the SCADA IEC 60870-5-104 slave protocol will be available as from July 2013:

DinBox RTU SL 104 (July 2013)
The DinBox RTU SL '104' is a micro GPRS RTU with integrated IEC 60870-5-104 slave functionality and with 8 digital inputs, 2 digital outputs and 2 analog inputs with the possibility to extend I/O with additional boards using RS-485 Modbus. Also the RS-485 interface can be used to connect to power meters or other monitoring devices using a Modbus protocol.

I/O extension module for DinBox RTU SL and DinBox GPRS SL with 8 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs, 4 extension slots (for analog inputs or outputs, pulse counting ...). The module communicates with the RTU or modem through a RS-485 Modbus interface.
