2014: Communication scenarios for (electricity) distribution network operators.

2014: Communication scenarios for (electricity) distribution network operators.
During 2014, the company will be focusing on 4 major communication aspects of the SMART GRID problemacy: IEC 60870-5-104 SCADA monitoring, GPRS meter reading, EV charging infrastructure electronics and Grid Voltage sensoring electronics.

Bausch Datacom is building a diversified portfolio of IEC 60870-5-104 slave RTU's and GPRS modems, EV charging infrastructure electronics and innovative midvoltage sensor technology for IEC-60870-5-104 MASTER systems and modem managing systems - Praxis MMS – using GSM and GPRS. Whether you want to monitor a smart EV charging infrastructure, monitor grid power quality parameters or transfer meter data, our aim is to offer smart communication products using the IEC 60870-5-104 SCADA protocol and management software.

Focus on IEC 60870-5-104 SCADA protocol and PRAXIS management system.

The company focuses on 4 major communication aspects of the (electricity) SMART GRID: IEC 60870-5-104 SCADA monitoring, (smart) meter reading, EV charging infrastructure and Mid-Voltage sensor technology.

Intelligent communication for meter reading.
Our GSM and GPRS modems - InduBox GSM IX - for smart metering communication are designed according to the highest industrial electromagnetic immunity requirements (TST25) and therefore greatly appreciated by our customers in the world of electricity metering. Bausch RS-232/485 InduBox modems are used worldwide in combination with metering devices such as iTron ACE6000, SL7000, Iskraemeco MT 830, 831, 861, Elster A1500.

Metering devices such as iTron ACE 6000, SL7000, Iskraemeco MT 830, 831, 861, Elster A1500 ... are used worldwide with Bausch InduBox modems (through RS-485 interface).

Next to immunity in high-voltage applications the Bausch InduBox modems offer different application firmware’s for different communication scenarios.  For mass deployment and management of the InduBox GSM and GPRS modems Bausch Datacom has developed the Praxis Modem Management System. Electricity companies in Belgium - Eandis, ORES, Sibelga, AIEG… - and Europe - PPC (Greece), JP Elektroprivreda BiH d.d (Bosnia-Herzegovina…-  have implemented InduBox modems and the Praxis MMS.

Intelligent communication for SCADA IEC 60870-5-104 monitoring.
Next to the M2M modem market, Bausch has entered the wireless IP SCADA market with remote terminal units - DinBox RTU SL - and modems - DinBox GPRS SL - supporting GPRS with integrated 60870-5-104 SCADA communication protocol. The devices can be interfaced with f.i. Power Quality meters through RS-485 interface using the Modbus protocol. The RTU comes with built-in digital and analog inputs and outputs and is used f.i. as a short-circuit alarm system in the electricity grid of Infrax. Security features on authentication or encryption can be implemented on demand.
Belgian utilities such as Infrax, Eandis, ORES, Sibelga and European utilities such as SIG Genève (Switzerland), Services Industrielles Lausanne (Switzerland) are using or testing the devices.
EV charging infrastructure electronics.

Since 2010 Bausch Datacom is working together with technology start-up companies eNovates and Blue Corner on intelligent AC charging for Electric Vehicles; the resulting eLoad product family (eRTU & eVCC) provides a full control ‘mode3’ (IEC 61851-22) and GPRS & Ethernet communication system for electric vehicle charging stations.
The charging infrastructure of Blue Corner (subscriptions) and eNovates (hardware & back office) becomes ever more intelligent and more adapted to the fast evolving market and is ‘ready’ for future protocol (IEC 60870-5-104 ?) integration and Smart charging applications in a Smart grid.

Experimental mid-voltage sensor for the cost-effective retrofit monitoring of voltage fluctuations.
Medium-voltage (MV) sensors for the Smart Grid are an evolving tool for the electric utility distribution engineer. In Belgium a partnership between Bausch Datacom, Eandis focuses on an innovative high-accuracy midvoltage sensor. The sensor is capable of measuring and monitoring voltage parameters without opening the cabling (15KV - 20KV) to the core.

Experimental prototype: The sensor is capable of measuring and monitoring voltage parameters without opening the mid voltage cabling (15KV - 20KV) to the core.

The new patented - by Eandis and Catholic University of Leuven - technology proposes a retrofit solution permitting measurement of power quality at a very competitive cost. In 2014 the first experimental sensor prototypes will be developed by Bausch Datacom (electronics) in close cooperation with specialists in cabling solutions. The aim is to offer products worldwide in 2015/2016.
