Bausch Datacom and RITTER Starkstromtechnik join activities in industrial data communication for the energy sector

German company RITTER Starkstromtechnik, member of the RITTER group buys an important share in Bausch Datacom Belgium, as expert in the communication and RTU industry, to join their activities in the 'smart grid' market and especially for communication technology such as:

• Modems
• Micro-RTU's
• Macro-RTU's for Electricity Distribution  

RITTER is a well-known manufacturer of Medium Voltage and Low Voltage Systems and is a High Level certified System Integrator of Station Automation Systems and Protection Systems of the several manufacturers like Siemens, ABB, SAE Sprecher and others, but also well known in the Process Automation in the water industry. RITTER Starkstromtechnik is a medium-sized company with more than 550 employees with locations in Dortmund, Olfen, Wilnsdorf, Magdeburg, Berlin, Oberhausen, Leuna and Nootdorp in the Netherlands.

The cooperation will produce a vibrant synergy between RITTER´s  expertise in installation, automation, switchgear and switch components for MV/LV stations and the communication technology (Modems and RTU’s) of Bausch Datacom. This partnership will open new possibilities for the new evolving secondary substation market and entering the European market for these devices. It offers also for Bausch Datacom, as communication technology specialist, a broader scale in Europe due to the markets RITTER is active in.

Bausch Datacom will continue to develop, engineer, produce and sell products under its own brand name with a focus on modems, RTU’s and Distribution Automation boxes for all kind of markets, as well as the electricity market (Metering and MV/LV substations)

The first products which are on the roadmap of Bausch Datacom and RITTER, is the launch of the ‘M4’ range, industrial modems, routers and ‘Micro RTU’ capable of performing modem, router or RTU functions, including basic possibilities to monitor and control secondary MV/LV substations data using official protocols such as IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850, Modbus and others.

End 2018, basic backend services for the M4 range (and other products of Bausch Datacom) such as firmware upgrade, TLS security, commissioning … will also be available.
